Emerging from the hotbed of diverse musical scenes that Glasgow offers Laki Mera merge electronic and acoustic to create their own particular style of music. They take their name from ‘the Chimera’, an illusion, a fleeting glimpse of a reality beyond. With both BBC Radio 2 Dermot O’Leary and a BBC Radio One Scotland sessions in the bag, a full Scottish tour, London, regional dates and festival dates all in the mix, this and is on the launch ad for great things.
Fronted by the ‘angel voiced’ Laura Donnelly, her spine chilling vocals layer over tight glitchy dark beats sounds and pumping bass, accompanied by an array of acoustic instruments, an undulating, rhythmic, floating, powerful, spacious, energetic sound. Sweeping electronic synths, hazy strings and drum beats merge into a pristine glistening sound, almost neo-classical at one end and at another maintaining a strong pop edge which has drawn the band critical comparisons with a diverse range of acts including the Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, XX and Portishead.
Sezer Uysal’s remix of Fool makes stunning use of Laura’s vocals and the acoustic strings of the orignal. His track ‘Singing In The Bathtub’ with Evan Ulusoy reached #1 on The Beatport Deep House Chart last year. He’s also remixed The Prodigy, and has done remixes for labels such as Armada Music, Dark Pleasure Records, Baroque Records, Proton Music,Outside the Box, Loco Records, Nulogic Records ReadyMix Records, BigCityBeats, Save Room, Enormous Tunes, Lo Kik, Groovebox, Brown Eyed Boyz, Inkfish, Escada and Le Mans…. His Wretch 32 remix is currently top 5 in the UK club chart.
Ad Brown has had tracks and remixes out on Black Hole, Armada, Sony, Universal, Anjunadeep, Baroque, MicroCastle and Slinky, and has been supported by A listers such as Kiss’ Steve Smart, Riley & Durrant, Armin Van Buuren, and Gareth Emery.
