“It is a very relaxing song” Andrew Huberman
Marconi Union are considered one of the leading ambient and electronic-synth acts in the world, continuously topping many lists as the most important contemporary ambient artists around today.
We are delighted to announce that their now iconic and seminal track ‘Weightless’ widely considered to be the most relaxing track in the world with hundreds of millions of streams worldwide and 500m+ views on TikTok, is released for the first time in Atmos on the Digital Services that currently support Atmos, namely Apple Music, Amazon HD and Tidal.
The band say:
“When the Atmos mix idea was suggested to us, we wanted to make it really special so we revisited the original recording to remix and enhance some of the sounds specifically for the new mix. The immersive mix was done in collaboration with Emre Ramazanoglu in London.
We’re excited to see the song continue to find new listeners over the years, so we’re pleased to share the Atmos mix today.
Tracks like Weightless which are very atmospheric really benefit from this technology, the Atmos mix allows the listener to be fully enveloped and immersed in the sound coming from all directions. We hope new listeners and our fans can hear it and experience their own Weightless world.”
‘Weightless’ has topped a scientific list of the most relaxing pieces of music of all time, scientific research suggesting that it can slow the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and decrease cortisone levels, a steroid hormone that is released in response to stress.
When the research was made public there was an instant and intense worldwide media reaction which continues to this day as the story continues its viral reach across the globe online, in print, on radio and TV.
The song was recently featured on the popular podcast Huberman Lab in an episode entitled ‘How to Use Music to Boost Motivation, Mood & Improve Learning’, where Andrew Huberman, the host and Tenured Professor of Neurobiology at Stanford School of Medicine, discusses how music can benefit one’s health and includes ’Weightless’ as part of his research for the episode. Huberman cites the now famous study that the song has shown evidence to decrease anxiety levels up to 65%, which is as effective in reducing anxiety as one of the most commonly prescribed benzodiazepines.
Listeners will be able to hear the Atmos mix on Apple Music, Amazon HD and Tidal if Atmos enabled, or alternatively they will be able to listen to the remastered stereo mix on these services.
